Somewhat, nationwide PPP dollars suggest incomes in San Francisco and Boise Idaho are equivalent.
India and China have similar regional differences.
- gruez 2y agoThat's only an issue if you use nationwide metrics to make local comparisons (eg. are new yorkers richer than people in Kolkata?), but if you're comparing the entire country it's fine.
- Retric 2y agoIf the goal is to measure things operating at the individual level like poverty then internal differences matter even when comparing countries. People living in Alaska are a lot poorer than their income suggests because of shipping and heating costs.
