"Move fast and break things" isn't the best strategy when dealing with a large, complex entity having a major impact on the lives of American citizens and even non-American citizens.
When Al Gore headed up DOGE (NPR - National Partnership for Reinventing Government) they spent considerable time working with department heads and members of Congress in doing their analysis and making their recommendations. Congress made their cuts in the next budget cycle. It resulted in 377,000 federal employees being let go and two years of budget surpluses. No chaos, no circus, just competence.
Republicans are acting like this has never been done before, it has. They had a successful blueprint. They had a majority in Congress that would have went along with anything that was even remotely reasonable. Their gross incompetence and ignorance of prior art has resulted in chaos.
