I didn't get a single ad. It is the Grauniad, not some sort of ad riddled website.

  Do you have an ad blocker running? Are you also on mobile safari? I had banners, an "email us or else we sell your data", and two full screen popovers (with non standard close behavior) back to back. All of this was in a few seconds since I left after that. You simply trying to invalidate my experience or calling me a liar isn't constructive or useful. Also, it being the guardian or not isn't a strong argument for or against if it has lots of ads.
