Show HN: Learn a language by practicing the words needed to watch a video
- mreichhoff 2y agoThis looks cool. Are languages besides the 3 listed supported?
- blackbrokkoli 2y agoThanks! Not yet, but there is no technical hurdle to add basically any language. What would you be interested in? :)
- I_am_tiberius 2y agoI'd be interested in french, but I guess from a business perspective spanish would make most sense.
- blackbrokkoli 2y agoThat's probably true. I reckon I'll add both rather soon.
- mreichhoff 2y agoChinese would be my pick
- I_am_tiberius 2y agoI like that. I'm always super annoyed by Netflix using indirect translations as subtitles. That means that people say something that doesn't correspond to the subtitles. Of course semantically it's about the same but I find it terrible for language learning.
- blackbrokkoli 2y agoAn interesting problem for sure (for example, should idioms be translated literally?)... On youtube, you have the opposite problem: Stuff like "ooh uhm" or garbled names makes it into the subtitles and confuse my translation engine...
- selmetwa 2y agoWow amazing project! Happy to see Egyptian Arabic as one of the supported languages.
