It is very silly to argue it does not exist just because the British allegedly had a larger one. People (the majority of which are not Russian and hate modern day Russia) call the US an empire because of seemingly endless list of things like banana Republics, operation condor, sending death squads to Nicaragua, chevron genocide, wars for oil. This is one of the silliest hills to die on.
