Yes, this is a huge issue. The screen brightness should be close to the ambient brightness. I test by looking around randomly a bit, keeping my screen in my peripheral vision. If it “pops” brightly in my peripheral vision, I know it’s too bright. Or I adjust the other way; if I’m planning use a screen for a while in a dark room, I’ll turn on some lights to bring up the ambient level a bit.
