I am more surpised that the other amateur mathematian appearing in this article is Greg Egan (He has a personal website on https://www.gregegan.net/ https://www.gregegan.net/).
He is one of the best contemporary hard SF writers in the world.
- barbazoo 2y agoWow. Any recommendation where to start?
- senderista 2y agoHe also must be one of the best recreational mathematicians in the world, as anyone who follows his work on his website and Mastodon knows.
- hackernewds 2y agosometimes on HN, I cannot tell which posts are AstroTurfing because the praise often is so niche and unrelated and superlative
- turtleyacht 2y agoSometimes it's alright. I got motivated to dig and found a list of Greg Egan's non-fiction books: https://www.gregegan.net/BIBLIOGRAPHY/Bibliography.html#NonFiction https://www.gregegan.net/BIBLIOGRAPHY/Bibliography.html#NonF... Waiting for the series Winning Ways for Your Mathematical Plays (various authors) gets a little cheaper.
- Suppafly 2y ago>best recreational mathematicians in the world What does that involve? does that mean he's good at math or is he coming up with new research and theorems and such?
- senderista 2y agoHe has coauthored math/physics papers with John Baez and Dan Christensen off the top of my head, I'm sure there are others.
