Finland has a population similar to the US metro I live in. The rates were about the same a few years ago, 4,000 people, it would be interesting to apply similar methods here. The city and famous people bought real estate in a former open air drug market and housed people there with great results over a decade or so.
- fastball 2y agoEven if the scale is the same, I'm not sure what works for a nation-state will work for a metro area, because a metro area has to deal with migratory homelessness as a result of any services or benefits provided, in a way that a nation with a strong border does not.
- hrududu 2y agoFinland doesn't have much in the way of open land borders, but it is part of Schengen.
- dredmorbius 2y agoFinland, part of the EU's Schengen zone, doesn't precisely have strong borders. It does lack the climate which might appeal to border-crossers, however, unlike, say, Southern California which has a long-standing homeless situation.
