With Severence specifically, it’s a “mystery box” type show, where we don’t really know much about the world and its history. Keeping the tech unrecognizably retro futuristic helps maintain that ambiguity of time and place.
Personally I love the aesthetics of the tech. Reminds me of 2001: A Space Odyssey.
- nivertech 2y agoI think it’s simply easier for prop designers to do retro-futuristic vs futuristic proper. It’s hard to predict the future, but easy to predict the past.
