This seems to be unfounded doomy conjecture. I'm running multiple Brother printers on the latest firmware with no such problems. One of the things people don't appreciate is the range of quality in aftermarket ink. Some of it is good but a lot of it is knockoff quality junk. People are probably overreacting when their Amazon knockoff toner fails in the machine and the Brother rep's official response is "Use genuine toner".
