I suppose so, but is that fundamentally different from just putting two LCD layers (from two identical TV) in front of the backlight?

  No and there are monitors that do that (search dual layer lcd monitor). They are really expensive.

    He has a different video where he makes such a screen, actually. I was kinda surprised when I saw this video pop up, thinking "Didn't he do this already?"
