- JKCalhoun 2y agoI'm learning that when things go to shit smart money looks for opportunity. Anyone want to start up a company selling pre-fab shipping-container houses with me?
- ttyprintk 2y agoMore broadly, the kind of people who make money under tariff schemes already have investment managers. I haven’t heard a Keynesian say these tariffs will achieve their stated purpose.
- jleyank 2y agoThe US tariffs hurt US consumers and Canadian companies. The counter tariffs do the reverse. However, the US seem to be all-product while the Canadian ones seem tailored to "encourage" selection of a non-US alternative (and are geo-located as it were). Is the US ready to experience some pain, as those outside the US have been prepping for this sh*t for a while.
- Tadpole9181 2y agoThe counter tariffs are usually explicitly chosen to make it not hurt their own citizens while hurting red states, because alternative sources of the tariffed goods exists domestically or from other parts of the world. Americans need aluminum and steel and lumber and power. Canada does not need Kentucky whiskey and Harleys.
- Marsymars 2y agoKinda, yeah, and I get that everyone well have their pet good that they feel shouldn't be tariffed, but including fruits/vegetables/legumes very much hurts the consumer.
- ddxv 2y agoChina seemed to focus on agricultural goods which it has been pushing for local industries for decades anyways. I think this was an olive branch in that it didn't really try to turn the screws?
