Under AB-1333, deadly force would no longer be legally justified:
• in defense of a habitation or property
• if the victim could have safely retreated, but only if outside their residence
• if excessive force is used, beyond what was deemed necessary for defense

So while it does have implications for when self-defense is justified, and does introduce ambiguous language which could make it more difficult for victims to claim self defense, it does not criminalize self-defense, per se.
