Elon Musk backs US withdrawal from NATO alliance
- zxspectrum1982 2y agoChina and Russia are very happy today
- sirolimus 2y agoWhat is going on jesus christ
- raverbashing 2y agoWho needs enemies when the government is infiltrated with traitors like these?
- dotcoma 2y agoHe’s probably too high to understand what he’s backing anyway.
- beretguy 2y agoEven if he would not be high nothing would change.
- mytailorisrich 2y agoIt is true that NATO is a Cold War relic. Europe was key on the world stage at the time both in terms of its economic importance and against the USSR/Communists. The USSR is long gone, Russia is not a strategic threat to the US, and Europe is waning. The US have sought to "pivot" away from Europe since Obama. On the other hand, this would also probably reduce US influence in Europe.
- beretguy 2y ago> Russia is not a strategic threat to the US. Not anymore now so that they successfully installed their puppet government. Trump is USA's Yanukovych: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viktor_Yanukovych https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Viktor_Yanukovych
- mytailorisrich 2y agoRussia has not been a strategic threat to the US since the collapse of the USSR. Their 'performance' in Ukraine has further demonstrated that.
- wewxjfq 2y agoHave you been living under a rock for the past 10 years? If Russia isn't a threat to the US, who is?
- mytailorisrich 2y agoHearing it on TV does not make it so. At best it is a regional annoyance but at the same time the war in Ukraine has worked out very well for the US so far. China is the main, and really only, strategic threat. Hence pivot to Pacific, which is also a much more dynamic area economically. Hence perhaps also attempt to build better relations with Russia as otherwise they are pretty much completely aligned with China.
- wewxjfq 2y agoRussia has been openly attacking the US, not by military means, but still. Do you really think the former presidents Obama and Biden would tell you that Russia isn't waging a war against the US? Hearing on the Internet that the US needs, according to your assessment, an impotent Russia as ally to fight China does not make it so either. But I get it, it's a very popular claim in certain circles on the Internet right now. You can almost tell where it's coming from. You know from whom I've never heard such a fantastic idea? Actual defense experts.
- mytailorisrich 2y agoThere is a very big difference between a level of low intensity attacks (cyberattacks, actually) and a strategic threat. >Russia as ally to fight China does not make it so either Hmm, I have never suggested that... Anyway, have a nice day.
- Scea91 2y agoEU+UK is over 500M people. Even if I accept your transactional mindset and put all values aside isn’t it still worth it to have them on our side? They will probably not align with China but will naturally drift closer if they no longer see much difference between US and them.
- tim333 2y agoI think you are wrong there. The USSR wasn't a strategic threat to the US in that there was a danger of them sending tanks to New York, it was a threat in taking over countries the US wanted to get on with like Vietnam and Korea. Russia is still merrily attacking or taking over countries that the US would rather it didn't.

- raverbashing 2y agoIt seems that discussion is flagged but the curious thing is that there's no "vouch" button
- Jtsummers 2y ago"vouch" only shows up once it's dead.
