Tesla Recalls over 376K Vehicles
- hackerbeat 2y agoThat's what happens when you lose focus while going bananas.
- mtmail 2y agoThe word "recall" includes cases of (like here) "over-the-air software update".
- tromp 2y agoYes; this is a soft recall rather than a hard recall requiring physical access to the car. Unfortunately, these qualifiers have yet to be adopted.
- croes 2y agoBecause the agencies don’t know how the fix will be implemented. Could be OTA, could be a visit in a garage.
- AlotOfReading 2y agoOne of the requirements to issue a recall notice is information about how consumers will access the fix, which is communicated to the government as part of the process.
- maxerickson 2y agoWhat should they do in the case that they shipped a software defect that in some circumstances leads to physical damage of a circuit board? The "overstress condition" being detected probably indicates that the steering is drawing more than the expected amount of current due to damaged components on the circuit board. Prior to the overseas regulator issuing a recall, it seems they were happy to not worry about it (they updated the software used in vehicles produced after the fault was identified but apparently had not issued an update to previously produced vehicles).
- stephc_int13 2y agoFor various reasons, the Tesla brand has no future in Europe and Asia. Automakers don't die quick, but I don't expect this one to last very long.
- jfoster 2y agoAn article about a software update to fix an issue that affects cars that are traveling at ~0 mph. Slow news day?
- RickTM 2y agowhat are you talking about? its a hardware issue. did you even read it? heres the actual recall" "The recalled Model 3s and Model Ys could face a loss of power steering assistance "when the vehicle reaches a stop and then accelerates again" if they experience an "overstress condition" in the printed circuit board for electronic power-assisted steering (EPAS), Tesla said in a recall report submitted last week to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)."
- AlotOfReading 2y agoThe thread that discussed this last week [0] re-litigated the terminology of "recall" a million times, for anyone who wants to read it. [0] https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43128987 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43128987
