You can't compare London from back then to London today though. In terms of its place among cities around the world, it's a different place now. There certainly would have been locations where your dad would not have been able to afford property, and conversely there certainly are places where you can afford property. Point being, things change, but this anecdote doesn't illustrate that you're worse off than a previous generation.
