I have been using TurboTax to file taxes for years. I do not like the company and would like to switch to something I trust a little more (and is a little cheaper) but I feel a little locked in (and it seems relatively easy). I am going to look at the website but does anyone have much to say about the difference (not employed and some 1099--div/int, in Texas so no state income taxes).
- sea-gold 2y agoI am super happy I switched. I live in Texas and have W-2 income as well as multiple 1099s (1099-R, 1099-INT, 1099-DIV, 1099-K, 1099-MISC, etc.). I started using TaxHawk for in 2022. I previously used TurboTax for over a decade but despised Intuit[1] and was finally able to switch away from them. TaxHawk doesn't have the same level of importing as TurboTax. The best TaxHawk can do is import a W-2 from a PDF or image. But, TaxHawk can't connect to bank/investment accounts. So, you have to enter that info manually. However, the manual input isn't very hard (and TurboTax importing didn't always work). Once you get a year done in TaxHawk, it will keep your info to help with the next year.
