Dozens arrested in global operation over AI-generated CSAM

- blackeyeblitzar 2y ago> Even though the content investigated in Operation Cumberland was “fully artificial” with “no real victim depicted,” AI-generated child sexual abuse material “still contributes to the objectification and sexualization of children,” the statement read. This doesn’t make sense to me. It seems like overreach. Why would fictional pornographic depictions or whatever be illegal? That’s just free speech, with “no real victim” as they admitted.
- gryfft 2y agoDistribution of CSAM of any kind, artificial or not, normalizes the exploitatation of children. It's not "just free speech" by a long shot no matter how you frame it. What gives me the willies is how incredibly easy this makes it to frame someone with disgustingly laser-targeted AI CSAM: of one's own children, for example, in the course of a nasty custody battle.
- blackeyeblitzar 2y agoBut it’s literally speech, and fiction as well. Whether it normalizes something isn’t really relevant. You could also argue it keeps people from committing actual crimes. But also many existing works of fiction / art would be illegal under such an aggressive stance.
- mitthrowaway2 2y agoIsn't this the same argument that supports banning violent video games?
