Sergey Brin says AGI is within reach if Googlers work 60-hour weeks
- yodsanklai 2y agoSeems to be the current Zeitgeist in big tech companies. We should work harder for less money in the race to AI (with the promise it will replace us). Got a similar speech in my company recently.
- malfist 2y agoWork harder so we can replace you sooner
- Grosvenor 2y agoHow many hours will Sergey Brin be working?

- wruza 2y agoIs it because googlers tend to forget things overnight and cannot continue in the morning? CEOs and directors sometimes demonstrate intelligence levels on par with 7B ERP-finetuned LLMs.
- l33tfr4gg3r 2y agoWork faster to achieve AGI, so we can lay you off faster.
- rurban 2y agoWell, they do have enough money to pay that much overtime and the CEO is in such a good mood :)
- fuzzfactor 2y agoYou've got to figure that there's no way they can employ that many people and still have a majority of them be even average productivity. Plus their cash cow really has never needed maximum productivity either, and some of the various other jobs are reported to be quite cushy from many perspectives. Regardless there have always been lots of brilliant people, and plenty above average too, often productively but probably more often above average in other ways. But probably not as productive as a much smaller but average company, simply because they are average. So apparently the same number of employees at an average company in 40 hrs can get done as much as Googlers at 60 hrs and that must be what he's talking about ;) He should have been setting the example he wants others to follow for quite some time beforehand.
- giardini 2y agoWhat happened to "working smarter"? Brin's moving into standup comedy! I heard Volodymyr Zelensky's old venue is available. Brin has the kudos for that - he's a laugh a minute!
