Trump administration struggles to rehire fired bird flu employees
- anonzzzies 2y agoWhy would anyone want to come back? Basically pay 6 months upfront or not coming back as you cannot trust these people at all.

- sjsdaiuasgdia 2y ago“I don’t know if people are going to want to come back,” said one USDA employee granted anonymity to discuss the firings and attempted rehirings without fear of retribution. “Now there’s this perception that federal jobs are not secure. I think they permanently damaged these services.” Exactly. The administration has made it clear through their words and actions that they have effectively no trust or respect for government employees. Why would anyone want to work under those conditions?
- jfengel 2y agoIt's not merely "no trust or respect". It's outright hatred.
- inverted_flag 2y agoNone of this is surprising if you start with the premise that Trump's goal is to destroy the federal government.
- jfengel 2y agoHe's been very clear that that is his goal. His voters were keenly aware of it. If they're surprised at all, it's that they're getting what they asked for faster and more effectively than they believed.
- JumpCrisscross 2y agoThey should come back as contractors billing at 10x their original salary.
- jfengel 2y ago10x isn't an option, but 2x is. And the government will have to pay 3x for it; the rest goes to the contracting company. (It's really hard to contract directly. Not impossible, but it's an enormous amount of paperwork designed to prevent the kind of self-dealing that is apparently rampant at the top levels.)
- JumpCrisscross 2y ago> or it; the rest goes to the contracting company. (It's really hard to contract directly Historically. If they’re willing to break rules to fire there isn’t any good reason not to break them to hire.
