If COBOL is so problematic, why does the US government still use it?

- tartoran 2y agoIt looks like in year 5000 there would still be some remnants of COBOL buried deep in the tech stack.
- JPLeRouzic 2y agoOn the contrary, COBOL is amazing. It's one of the first computer languages that can still compile programs written 40 years ago, while Python scripts 10 years old need extensive rewriting!
- alphan0n 2y agoMuch like Angels being able to understand every language except Aramaic, humanities last defense is that COBOL is indecipherable to AI. UM.. KNOCK KNOCK.. who’s there.. COBAL.. cobal who..? COBBALISTS ARE DRIVING ME NUTS HAHAHA..
