- numbsafari 2y agoThis has nothing to do with supply/demand, and everything to do with geopolitics.
- FrustratedMonky 2y agoYou think they would spend 500B without thinking there will be any demand?
- rsynnott 2y agoYou're missing the key phrase. "Says it will". Companies, of course, say all sorts of things. Sometimes, those things come to pass. But not really all that often.
- slashdev 2y agoApply said the same thing the last two election cycles. They seem to be eternally indicating they're investing multiple hundreds of billions in the US. What they actually followed through on, is what I want to know.
- dboreham 2y agoThe 500B is just something to put on a press release.
- sangnoir 2y agoIt cost Apple $0 to say they'll spend $500B.
- turnsout 2y agoIf Apple can pull off "Siri with context," it will completely annihilate Microsoft's first mover advantage. They'll be left with a large investment in a zero-margin commodity (OpenAI).
- asadhaider 2y agoUnfortunately Siri remains near useless at times even with Apple Intelligence™®
- helsinkiandrew 2y agoThe "LLM Siri" hasn't been rolled out even in beta, estimates reckon 2026 https://www.macrumors.com/2024/11/21/apple-llm-siri-2026 https://www.macrumors.com/2024/11/21/apple-llm-siri-2026
- joshstrange 2y agoCorrect, Apple changing the UI before changing the backend might be one of the more stupid things I’ve ever seen.
- drowntoge 2y agoThe messiest launch ever. The renewed UI makes it easy to assume that the LLM-backed Siri is already here but just isn't much better than the old one. A marketing disaster.
- turnsout 2y agoYes, although before full "LLM Siri," Apple promised an "enhanced" Siri with contextual understanding in iOS 18. The clock is ticking though—WWDC will be here before you know it.
- ghaff 2y agoJust like all the other voice assistants.

- ein0p 2y agoI have serious doubts about this. Consider that Apple has somewhere around 2 billion users (a very, very optimistic estimate). This would be $250 per user - an utterly ridiculous number to spend on a set of features than nobody even uses. I think this is creative accounting to impress Trump and stave off the tariffs until his term ends.
