Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 Spotted with Missing ROPs, Nvidia Confirms the Issue
- magicalhippo 2y agoWe have identified a rare issue affecting less than 0.5% (half a percent) of GeForce RTX 5090 / 5090D and 5070 Ti GPUs which have one fewer ROP than specified. So not just the 5090 but also the 5070 Ti which is a much more attractive deal for many. NVIDIA 50-series launch is starting to look like the very definition of a shitshow.
- cratermoon 2y agoScuttlebutt is that they launched prematurely to time it for CES and because execs saw their sagging stock value post-DeepSeek and wanted to bump up revenue numbers for 2025Q1
- magicalhippo 2y agoWell it was already delayed from a H2 2024 launch IIRC, but yea really needed even more time in the oven. Now all that's missing is for AMD to f up their launch too. Would be nice if Intel could get up there so we can get some high-end rivalry again.
- tharmas 2y agoThey can really only f it up with their pricing. Last time they did just that. Hopefully they've learned their lesson.
- tharmas 2y agoWhen youtuber der Bauer mentioned that his AiB card from ASUS only had a couple of weeks of testing before arriving at his door, when its usually a couple of months, I knew then people were going to find defects. The company no longer cares about its consumer cards.
- williamDafoe 2y agoInfluencers are the ones doing Q/A for NVidia, what an embarassment! I guess the cards shortages are so severe they didnt have any spares for internal Q/A!
