Dimon Says He'd Be Cutting 'Stupid' DEI Costs Even Without Trump
- duxup 2y agoWas he in charge when they did those things in the first place?
- jarsin 2y agoHe's been ceo since 2005 but he had major heart surgery in 2020. They claim he returned to work shortly after, but not sure how much of that was just for the shareholders sake.
- cratermoon 2y agoIt's entirely possible these days for someone his age to return to work after major heart surgery in 6-8 weeks.
- blackeyeblitzar 2y agoInteresting. Apparently the heart surgery was to address “acute aortic dissection”, which is a serious emergency situation wiht a high fatality rate. And he also previously survived throat cancer: https://nypost.com/2024/04/26/business/jamie-dimon-reveals-near-death-heart-surgery-i-knew-it-was-50-50/ https://nypost.com/2024/04/26/business/jamie-dimon-reveals-n...
- k310 2y agoA major point of DEI, IMO, is broadening the base of available employees, a benefit to the company and to customers who feel more welcome.
- raxxorraxor 2y agoIt may have been a point, but it wasn't the result. Instead its loudest proponents used it to create a victim hierarchy along racial lines that certainly did not decrease prejudice. Worse, it made fun of formerly popular ideas of humanism and replaced those with worse ones. The typical "I don't see color"-critics that may not have thought it through. Also, the prevalence of employers discriminating along racial lines was very likely very small even before DEI became a thing. It didn't have a sensible focus either.
- ZeroGravitas 2y agoDidn't I just read a headline saying the exact opposite of this? Oh, okay the second sentence kind of contradicts the vibe of the headline. Article I saw was about a Davos speech: "Jamie Dimon reaffirmed JPMorgan's DEI commitments after pressure from an activist shareholder." https://www.businessinsider.com/jamie-dimon-doubles-down-jpmorgan-diversity-efforts-dei-shareholder-activists-2025-1 https://www.businessinsider.com/jamie-dimon-doubles-down-jpm...
