There's a joke that goes something like "how long is a piece of string". In order to figure out how much it costs to own a given car you have to create a model you can plug a bunch of numbers into. For our cars, fuel and electricity is not what drives cost since we don't drive all that much. The petrol car is about 5-6 times more expensive to service per year and it is about 3 times as expensive to insure.
