- jarin 14y agoYou can do it pretty easily with Automator (comes with OS X) http://www.peachpit.com/blogs/blog.aspx?uk=Mac-Productivity-Quick-Scripts-and-Workflows--Set-Desktop-to-Astronomy-Picture-of-the-Day http://www.peachpit.com/blogs/blog.aspx?uk=Mac-Productivity-... I'd recommend changing it to "Get URLs of images linked from these webpages" though, to get the high-res version.
- Tyr42 14y agoHey, I'm just forking it right now to have that to you. I have it mostly working, I'm just installing PIL. But apart from resizing everything works. Check back in 15 minutes.
- randomdrake 14y agoAwesome! I'd love to link to yours when/if you get it up and running. I would very much like to make this in OSX myself, but as I said in another comment: I still don't have a Macbook.
- Tyr42 14y agoHere you go: https://github.com/TyrGodOfWar/nasa-apod-desktop https://github.com/TyrGodOfWar/nasa-apod-desktop Err, I don't know what's polite in terms of editing the readme and stuff. I hope what I did is acceptable. It only sets it for the space I'm on when I run the script. I have no idea what will happen with crontab. But, you can also just use this to populate the folder, and have osx change the photo every hour or so from the menu. I also removed the re-sizing. If you want to install the python imaging library, `brew install pil` works. Then just uncomment the function.
- schallis 14y agoI've use a poor man's shell script that does pretty much this and works on OSX https://gist.github.com/1144996 https://gist.github.com/1144996
