People like to argue that they don't trust deepseek, because it's in China
I don't trust openai either, because it's in america and that is heavily surveilled by the nsa.
So I trust them equally little and I try to not give any of them information that they could use against me.

I believe it, because I've known people who work there and heard enough stories about the internal controls and how often people in one division don't know about relevant things at another division because of them. If they did want to spy on you, however, that doesn't make a big difference because other countries from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Eyes https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Five_Eyes The trouble however, is not hoovering up a lot of information, it is doing something effective with it. For every terrorist who acts on the sentiment, there must be millions of people in the Middle East who say "death to America." The diplomatic and intelligence services in the US are notorious for their poor quality and groupthink. It doesn't help that the security clearance process makes it impossible to hire anybody interesting or who actually knows a foreign language. China must collect a huge amount of information from Temu and TikTok about what kind of crap Americans want to buy and that's useful information. Hypothetically they might want to know what Americans think about Taiwan or Xinjiang but does it actually make a difference? Membership in the Chinese Communist Party has its own ideological filtering effect that will prevent them, as individuals, but especially as a group, seeing anything that they don't already want to see.
