How do you live in a house without knowing what a hole saw is?
- davethedevguy 2y agoAt some point, everybody had to learn what a hole saw is for the first time.
- kelnos 2y agoI would guess that most people who live in houses don't know what hole saws are. Your assumption that everyone does -- or even needs to -- comes off a bit arrogant and out of touch.
- hoseja 2y agoDoes homeownership not imply major participation in house maintenance in America? Do you just have "handymen" do everything for you? Do you only interact with your physical environment in superficial ways?
- pjc50 2y agoMaybe you can talk to the guy who thinks that's exactly the solution: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43086440 https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=43086440 But "living in a home" and "homeownership" are not the same thing. Everyone has to learn something at some point, people aren't born holding hole saws.
- mtc010170 2y agoAmerica is a very big place, and homeownership looks very different depending on the type of home. Maintaining an old, free-standing house with well water in a rural area is a completely different experience from living in a newly built condo. People take on different responsibilities when they become homeowners, and their knowledge varies accordingly.
