I bought this game for my Steam Deck a few weeks ago and so far dumped about 15 ish hours into it. What makes this game so special and different is that's it's basically a PS2 game that has been upgraded and modernized. Pretty much all modern racing games (Forza, NFS, etc) are piled on with tons of menus, micro transactions, this type of currency and that type of currency, lots of "events" and a heavy focus on online interaction. This game does none of this and it's just so so refreshing.
I highly highly recommend anyone into racing games pick this up.
- soupfordummies 2y agoYeah it's kind of a bummer that with all the awesome ways games have evolved in the past 20 years or so, they've also picked up really bad habits along the way. For a refreshing alternative, check out Astro Bot if you have a Playstation. All of the wow-factor of modern state-of-the-art gaming with none of the microtransaction, over-stuffed clutter bs. I do hope that we see more like TXR too -- classic gameplay (hard to stomach PS2 as classic but here we are) with modern technology capability. It seems like we've been seeing that in the indie space for a while with all of the pixel-y 16-bit style games. I think we're going to start seeing a lot more PS2-era style retro games and I can't wait.
