Toyota's Third-Generation Hydrogen Fuel Cell Promises More Range
- ggm 2y agoA massive investment in Solar/Wind produced Hydrogen for export got canned in Australia. The JV needed $1b+ of additional state funding and got nothing so they walked. Admittedly it was heading to 2 or 3 times more expense building out the train than they'd said, but thats probably not unusual in civil construction. I believe another plant in South Australia is still going ahead. And possibly one in Victoria. I am a bit of a skeptic over the value chain here. I get that Ammonia is both feedstock for other things, and a safe(r) transport form to get it around the world and I do now believe there's a potential sustained market, if Japan still backs fuel-cell motors. But, I don't see this as a locked in thing. You would think that a world centered on Oil would look for another energy source amenable to retrofit into their design tech and from what I understand Ammonia to H2 Gas to direct industrial applications isn't a bad journey. Piping H2 where you had LNG is (I read) a horrible journey because it's more motile, the seals adequacy for Hydrogen doesn't mean LNG distribution systems "just work"
