Unsloth's 5 challenges to get a job offer of $500K/year and equity
- guywithahat 2y agoThis is cool, although I would hate to put 20 hours into solving this just to learn all the positions have been filled, or do a 15 minute interview with the company just for them to say I'm not a "culture" fit. Neuralink sent me home with a 10 hour assignment writing 1000 lines of (reasonably math-heavy) code and they never even reviewed it. The HR lady kept saying the team was busy (reviewing other coding assignments), and after two weeks of pestering her she said they decided I didn't have enough experience. I know I probably sound salty (I am), but the code itself was impeccable.
- numba888 2y agoIt's time to start using AI or you will be always too late...
- musicale 2y agoI can see why companies might not want to tell you that you are lower on the list and they are waiting to see if they can get anyone better (perhaps even interviewing additional candidates), but it puts you in an unpleasant position because you feel (correctly) that they are stringing you along and not being straight with you.
- danielhanchen 2y agoNo positions have yet been filled - I did write a follow up post where I'll compensate you fairly if we interviewed you, but don't end up hiring you - https://x.com/danielhanchen/status/1891609444343050514 https://x.com/danielhanchen/status/1891609444343050514 Also I added bug bounties for all tasks in Task 4 :)
- Grimblewald 2y agoAs tempting as it is on the surface, it would require one stay / move to the USA. Given the current direction that country is taking that seems like an overall poor career move. As it stands you literally could not pay me to join the USA.
- numba888 2y ago> Given the current direction that country is taking that seems like an overall poor career move Just wonder what is better? China, Europe, Canada, India.. all have their own problems
- Grimblewald 2y agoThey sure do, every country does - problems are a thing life just goes hand in hand with, but the type and scale of the problem in the USA signals an imminent collapse. The USA is going through its nero watching rome burn moment. Saying all countries have problems in response to critique of the modern USA is like saying all ships take on water when one is actively sinking.
- numba888 2y ago> scale of the problem in the USA signals an imminent collapse In my reality so far so good. Finally something is done about national debt which is about $100,000 per citizen. Impressive. Dems kept throwing money left and right, trying to 'feed the world' and themselves on the way. Sock market is good. Bitcoin goes down as sign of likely Ponzi schema collapse or adjustment. Musk probably sold his $1B. Trump very unlikely will create government fund of bitcoins and other cripto-scum inspite of promises to supporters. They had and still have their chance to sell. He is a showman but not stupid. EU has bigger problems now and coming.

- danielhanchen 2y agoThis is false - we just started hiring a few days ago (hence the Tweet) We were looking for interns a few months ago, but did not give any offers to anyone. If we provided offers, we never rescind them. If you could, do you have a link to the Reddit comment? It would be cool if we could clear things up, since this is fully untrue.
- nico 2y agoSorry, spent a while looking and couldn't find the link (reddit search is a mess). Given that, I wouldn't mind deleting or editing my comment. Unfortunately HN doesn't let me However, I do mind you guys hunting me down on other platforms and sending me aggressive messages

- torhorway 2y agoSo you spend hours of your own time on a "challenge" to solve work problems, "4. Help solve Unsloth issues!", for their company, to potentially get a job offer? And they get your work for free? What a scam. This is worse than an unpaid internship, because at least you can put that on your resume.
- danielhanchen 2y agoI wrote a follow up Tweet a while back to address this - we'll compensate anyone fairly if we interview them but don't hire time. Also I added $100 to $1000 bug bounties for each task for Task 4 - https://x.com/danielhanchen/status/1891609444343050514 https://x.com/danielhanchen/status/1891609444343050514
- moralestapia 2y agoNice concept, but I pity the guy that works for free for them in exchange of a "promise of a job".
- guywithahat 2y agoWorst part is if you read the fine print you’re just working for an interview. There isn’t even a reasonable promise for a job, only a promise you get to speak to their HR briefly
- moralestapia 2y agoYou're right! What a joke.
- danielhanchen 2y agoI wrote up a follow up Tweet - there are bug bounties worth $100 to $1000 per task. For an interview, because we created a points system, it's entirely transparent, and we require all code to be Apache 2 licensed, so you can inspect all processes freely in the public.
- danielhanchen 2y agoI wrote a follow up tweet a while back - if we interview you, but don't think it'll work out, we'll compensate you! I also added individual bug bounties ranging from $100 to $1000 per task https://x.com/danielhanchen/status/1891609444343050514 https://x.com/danielhanchen/status/1891609444343050514 Also all tasks are not "free work" - they're already solved internally (albeit from task 4 for Github issues) But they haved bug bounties as well - if there's anyone you want me to improve, definitely please tell me - thanks!
