Your experience is bizzare. Was it Verizon (or AT&T/T-Mobile) and did you use a Cat-1bis/Cat-M/NB-IoT or higher class modem? Normally US carriers require Firmware-Over-The-Air (FOTA) capability for the modem firmware. This is not the case for deployments outside of the United States, to my knowledge. It would be interesting to hear more about your story!
