If you can stomach Australians, which isn't too hard for most people, it's actually a good balance for Americans. It's culturally not too far from the US, it has English and a sensible politics (relatively). The weather is really good, and diverse, and people are very relaxed (compared to the US). If you don't have a sense of humor, especially about yourself, you may find it difficult there though.
