So the first part of this is reasonably interesting but then the author goes off on an unnecessary and nasty detour about trans people. I have to say the anti “gender cult” people are very annoying about putting this topic in literally everything.
So this would have been an article I share around but it turned out to be nothing notable.
- hatthew 2y agoYeah after reading that paragraph I took a look at his other articles, he seems to be some genre of alt right. Not really someone I want to promote.
- bruce511 2y agoSo many changes have happened in a single life-time. Political, societal, technological etc. And change is always unsettling. Most of all though the utopia promised in the 50s, by Walt certainly, but also others, has not come to pass. The MAGA movement is not about returning to what was, but rather about a return to a feeling, a nostalgic return to a time of hope. And in the 50s the future hoped for was very white, and kept women at home. Disney didn't present a future of women working, or having bodily agency, it presented a future of privileged white men. Disney, the company, itself changed along the way. It's far more progressive now, and indeed if anything takes the progressiveness a bit far. That change in something so nostalgic adds to that MAGA angst. Of course the present is nothing like the future Walt imagined. His vision seems like a quaint pastiche now. Is it too late to remake America into that vision now? I guess we'll find out.
- Animats 2y agoThat's just two lines in the article. The article's real obsession is with Disneyland. Which is kind of over. Disney park attendance is down.[1] Too expensive, and too hot in summer. The Florida unit has to close for hurricanes more often and the Anaheim unit is impacted by wildfire pollution. - 1oooqooq 2y agoi found this line the center piece. it shows how even inteligent, articulated, educated, and mostly well meaning people, can be coopted to mass hysteria against the "other" they don't even personaly know.
