As a retired UK psychotherapist I entirely agree
I am pleased you used reifying, Thats why I chose my username.
Labelling is the main cause of this continuing nightmare bestowed upon the human race.
Wihtout a label you cannot get medication.
All those overworked psychiatrists peering into the DSM5 or the ICD10 when you leave the office or consulting room. I mean! everyone on the planet can reach the threshold of depression when you have 12 criteria and you only require 5 of those criteria to be diagnosed (labelled) as depressed.
Well. Here are my 5 criteria, and I do not have depression but, if I went to the doctors complaining of these symptoms they would prescribe some SSRI and offer a referral to the psyche team.
1. I have trouble sleeping almost every night. 2. I feel tired all the time. 3. I struggle with ennui and being bored as if life is pointless. 4. I sometimes over eat or do not eat enough. 5. I cannot concentrate on my many hobbies that I used to enjoy.
My diagnosis? I am nearly 70 years old and life is sometimes shit. Thats just how it is.
I read recently that 8 million people in the UK are on anti-depressants. The true facts are that barely any of these people need an anti-depressant.
Human moods are just part of the human condition and we do not need any drugs to support us through those periods.
In my 20 years working as a psychotherapist I never saw anybody who benefitted from anti-depressants.
I will leave you with these two words
paradoxical reaction!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
this is what anti-depressants do. They create depressive symptoms for you and then hope that your brain will adapt to this medically induced depression and cure you.
There is no cure people. Just lie after lie about the myth of Chemical Imbalance
you have all been sold a pup!
