I dont think your for-loop example is not very fair. It took me about 5 mins of reading online to figure out how to do it right, but I certainly wouldnt be able to create a flawless working script offline because much of my work in Linux tech support is not of this nature. I spend more time collecting core dumps and analysing them, for example. Don't you think you are prematurely excluding a lot of good candidates over a minor issue like this?
