Russian drone detonates on Chornobyl nuclear plant containment shell
- Terr_ 2y ago> “The Russian military doesn’t do that. They don’t. This is most likely just another provocation,” Peskov said. This reminds me of a month before the invasion, when Russia was making the same kinds of denials that their totally innocent forces on the border were just doing military exercises and warnings of "imminent invasion" was all a mean hoax by other countries. I suppose this particular set of lies might mainly be for their own domestic audience.
- glial 2y agoThere is a certain group of people for whom words aren't about communicating truth.
- ashoeafoot 2y agoIts a display of strength by cruelty. You stab someone, twist the knife and lie to his face "I would never do that!"( and everybody will repeat my version and you can do nothing but suffer). The lie is a power demonstration .
- Terr_ 2y agoTo recycle [0] some comments on how "obvious" lies still have layers of evil utility: > Forcing victims to compromise themselves is part of the strategy. Even as a lie, it demoralizes them, binds them to your organization, and isolates them from one-another. [...] > "Bob wants to join the resistance. He says he was lying about the loyalty oath [to] the oppressors." > "I dunno, even if Bob was always lying about that, it still makes him the kind of person who would deceive people in order to keep his job, so I'm not sure we can trust him either." - maximinus_thrax 2y agoNo, it's an actual military strategy, with lots of historical examples https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_military_deception https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russian_military_deception. Also check out the etymology of the Molotov Cocktail. While Finland was bombed by the Russians, Molotov was saying on Soviet state radio that the bombing missions over Finland were actually "airborne humanitarian food deliveries" for their "starving" neighbors. Americans, especially some of the pro-Russian republicans should pick up a history book or two, to figure out why they're cheering for. It's a 'same shit, different assholes' type of situation, an expansionist cruel society which has evolved very little over the past centuries.
