They are not skilled at governing and many of their governance goals are illegal, so they have to resort to strong arm tactics like this. You can bellyache all day about getting downvoted on reddit or flagged on here, but when the government is trying to target people for dissent, that's when we're actually into territory the founding fathers were scared of.
