There's a Term for What Trump and Musk Are Doing
- jschveibinz 2y ago"...the eradication of the federal civil service, along with its culture and values, and its replacement with something different. In other words: regime change." The U.S. has a "regime change" every four years (eight on occasion). This should not be a revelation. For the uneducated--as apparently is the case with this author--the federal executive branch works under the Executive (President). This is the branch of government currently under assessment of DOGE (stupid bro acronym, in my opinion). While the roughshod methods currently being used by DOGE to examine and cut the executive branch workforce is upsetting, it is not an abuse of power. In fact, you could argue that examining and pruning the workforce is something that every responsible President should do. There is no implied obligation of the government to provide "forever jobs" to anyone in federal service. Things change, and merit (productivity) matters. Non sequitor--We should start with the politicians. I wish the electorate would vote out every incumbent after one term. That would be a breath of fresh air. But the federal government, like any organization, employs a lot of unproductive workers. It's time for a housecleaning--I just wish it was being done by somebody else with a little more class and respectfulness.
