- ivewonyoung 2y agoSenate needs 60 votes to avoid a filibuster. Democrats have enough votes to stop any bill from passing except budget reconciliation.
- paulryanrogers 2y agoDo bills still matter, whether they pass or not? Apparently it's rule by executive order from here on out.
- ivewonyoung 2y agoYea, I remember the whole Biden forgiving student loans fiasco that bypassed Congress several times and argued in court that the President has extensive powers via executive orders.

- threeseed 2y agoLatest is that their budget would include 4.5T in tax cuts, 2T in spending cuts which makes up the majority of what Trump wants from Congress anyway. It's not like they were ever looking to pass giant infrastructure bills. Everything else e.g. border security can be done through Executive Order. https://www.cbsnews.com/news/house-republicans-budget-resolution-trump/ https://www.cbsnews.com/news/house-republicans-budget-resolu...
- redserk 2y agoI'm not sure there's much really stopping 51 members of the Senate from ramming through a rule-change to completely do away with the filibuster.
- sirl1on 2y agoThat filibustering is still a valid political instrument is so weird as a non american. Maybe the us wouldn't be in this mess if it wouldn't cling to political process from the 1800s
- macinjosh 2y agoElections have consequences. The Democrats should have listened to what the people wanted instead of just being anti Trump.
