What else would it be to them? They're not a charity. I don't see why people keep directing their hate toward the corporations for doing what they're intended to do. The hate and effort should be directed toward the politicians who prevent the implementation of changes that people want. Or do the majority of people not want changes that would prevent this kind of thing?

I mean, they could be a not-for-profit entity. > The hate and effort should be directed toward the politicians who prevent the implementation of changes that people want. Why not both? I can be mad at the companies who are purchasing those politicians, too.
- thinkingtoilet 2y agoNo. This is the "just doing my job" defense. If your job is to kill people so you can make a buck, then you are a garbage human and I'm not going to cry if someone hunts you down in the street.
- tejohnso 2y agoWell, I think we saw that and yeah, most people weren't crying about it. And yes, the "Just doing my job" (or, just following orders) defense is very powerful. That's why it shouldn't be surprising that this kind of thing happens given the incentives and systems involved.
- mandmandam 2y ago> I don't see why people keep directing their hate toward the corporations... > The hate and effort should be directed toward the politicians who prevent the implementation of changes that people want. Who do you think is hiring the lobbyists to pay off the politicians? Who do you think is paying the media to make sure people don't know that we're actually pretty agreed on this issue? I have enough anger for 'both' political parties, the corporations that buy them, and the media (social and corporate) that runs cover for both. And I'm not remotely apologetic for that; I believe it's the only rational and humane opinion to have about healthcare in the US.
- tejohnso 2y ago> Who do you think is hiring the lobbyists to pay off the politicians? Again, it's not the hiring of the lobbyists that should be surprising, or where the effort and anger should be directed in my opinion. It should be toward the politicians that actually accept those payoffs. Of course an entity incentivized to maximize profit is going to lobby to improve its position. The elected representatives should behave in such a way that those lobbying efforts are wasted. Also the system should be organized so that it can't happen in the first place.
- MiddleEndian 2y agoIf some guys mug me while the cops watch and do nothing, I can be angry at both groups, especially if the guys previously paid off the cops.
- tejohnso 2y agoSure you can be angry but you shouldn't be surprised at the muggers' behaviour. They're muggers after all and they're justifying their behaviour in some way that satisfies them. The anger in their direction isn't really helpful because they don't care about you. The crooked cops are the ones that need to be eradicated so that proper law enforcement can be applied and muggings decrease in frequency and severity.
- MiddleEndian 2y agoWhy not both? It's not like these hypothetical cops care about me any more than the muggers. If I have the opportunity to defend myself from the muggers in this scenario or get my money back, I would do so as well. And I would be happy to ostracize anybody I know to be a mugger even if law enforcement does nothing. And build social support for more law enforcement actions against muggers. Etc.
- Henchman21 2y agoI refuse to believe an actual human wrote this. You must be a bot or an LLM or similar. No human could be this obtuse.
