The biggest problem with AI is people with poor understanding of computer science developing an almost religious belief that increasing vaguely defined "intelligence" will somehow translate into godlike power. There's actually a field devoted to the rigorous study of what "intelligence" can achieve, called complexity theory, and it makes it clear that many of the problems that AI cultists expect "superintelligence" to solve (problems it'd need to solve to be "godlike") are not tractable even if every atom in the observable universe was combined into a giant computer.
