The most consequential breach was Change Healthcare’s (subsidiary of THAT United group) breach last year, since it exposed medical records of over 100 million Americans allegedly. Or maybe Salt Typhoon and gaps in the wiretap system. There are others too. I don’t see how a push to expose and stop waste and corruption is at all comparable to other governments hacking so many systems.
The complaints I’m now seeing about privacy in the context of DOGE feel shallow to me - most people have SSNs that were exposed somewhere already. And complaints about DOGE feel disingenuous because most people didn’t care about the long string of other breaches that have victimized Americans previously. And many of the same complaining people volunteer their secrets to social media apps run by China. But now they’re all suddenly interested in privacy?
Sorry I don’t buy it. The complaints feel political. And given the scale of spending and debt in America, DOGE is the bare minimum for what every administration should be doing.
