- kemotep 2y agoThis is Steve Ballmer’s pet project. He released a few videos on various statistics. https://youtu.be/wt91pxCd0qA https://youtu.be/wt91pxCd0qA
- erulabs 2y agoIt’s nice to see someone at least attempting the “zero opinions” angle.
- tyleo 2y agoI feel like post-Microsoft Steve Ballmer is really killing it. Acquired also did an episode on Microsoft which paints Ballmer in an interesting positive light I hadn’t heard elsewhere: https://www.acquired.fm/episodes/microsoft https://www.acquired.fm/episodes/microsoft
- mindcrash 2y agoHe was already killing it when he was at Microsoft. (I can tell, because I worked at a pretty big EU based Microsoft partner at the time). Note that pretty major stuff like .NET (developers, developers, developers!), Windows Mobile, Windows Phone, Surface, Xbox, and Azure all got launched under his watch. Sometimes I even think Nadella fucked it all up. Windows 10 was meh, Windows 11 is shit, Mobile was killed even though the Nokia phones were top notch, Sony just publishes first party games on PC to earn extra cash while MS needs to do it to keep the Xbox division alive (because everything released on day 1 on Xbox is also released on PC so why bother with a console...), the AI hype will not lead anywhere, and I could go on and on... ... but oh well.
- hnisoss 2y agoyou re down-voted for going against the grain. for downvoters: https://danluu.com/ballmer/ https://danluu.com/ballmer/
- mopsi 2y agoWhen I read articles like "What Are Tariffs and How Do They Work?", I can't help but feel that they are written in overly complicated and abstract language. For this kind of website, it might be a good idea to strive for Simple English. Compare: https://usafacts.org/articles/what-are-tariffs-and-how-do-they-work/ https://usafacts.org/articles/what-are-tariffs-and-how-do-th... https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tariff https://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tariff
- tonymet 2y agoit's important to review the budget, but each line item does not often describe where the spending when. For a given bill or appropriation, much of the appropriation goes to other functions or destinations. The issue with "facts" is that they are themselves a story.
- gtirloni 2y agoAny examples you could share?
- tonymet 2y agoCares act, The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, HR 808, DOD Budget, VA , HR. 815, HR 8035, HR 2617, USFS budget, USAID, IRS, US Treasury, FEMA, HUD, Dept of Education, Pell Grants Generally any budget or appropriations bill is 85% for another function. Entitlements are typically paid primarily to administration and contractors and not to those who need it.
