Just kidding it’s not dangerous and killed zero people. It’s banned because we perform security theater not actual security.
There was no actual threat from liquid explosives, the plan would never have worked and we ban liquids not because they’re dangerous but because it’s a visible thing our screeners can be seen doing.
- BearOso 2y agoThe article is misleading, it's not because it's liquid. Kimchi has a potent odor that can be overwhelming, especially in a closed-air environment like a plane. It's the same reason airports ban durian.
- wrp 2y ago> Kimchi has a potent odor I had a Korean grad student here in Arizona once whose mother sent her a jar of kimchi by parcel post -- a very large jar. Well, the jar broke in transit and the package arrived as a soggy, stinky mess. I was surprised the mail service actually followed through with delivery. As an occasional traveler on Korean public transportation, I haven't been bothered much by kimchi. What gets to me is dried octopus.
