I was talking in generalities beyond the original reddit author. I would not call a PEM test invasive but I would consider it likely damaging and wouldn't recommend in general. A blood draw is hardly invasive and there is absolutely no reason why the tests cannot be cheap. Like $5 cheap - far cheaper than the $100K this person already spent.
