Inside OpenAI's $14M Super Bowl debut
- kjellsbells 2y agoVisually, appealing and striking. As an ad, underwhelming. The voiceover was swallowed up by the soundtrack and by the time the source, ChatGPT, had been revealed, the ad was over. Frankly, not an ad that will be the hot topic of Monday morning watercooler conversation. There are cultural rules to SB ads. You can be striking or funny. Most ads miss.
- liveoneggs 2y agoI thought it was a cisco ad until the very end
- ShakataGaNai 2y agoMy statement was “whose logo is a dot or dots?” But someone at my SB party, who isn’t a techy said the same thing you did “isn’t it Cisco?”
- tylerrobinson 2y ago> Rouch said that “the whole space is learning” but emphasized that “authenticity really matters.” The dissonance is just wild. > “This is a celebration of human creativity and an extension of human creativity,” Rouch says, addressing the decision not to use AI-generated content in the final product. The mental gymnastics! Our product changes everything, except this ad, because we know that people hate inauthenticity in communication.
- iainctduncan 2y ago"It is sooo amazing! As amazing as fire! But not amazing enough for us to eat our own dogfood..." weasels.

- mgh2 2y agoWonder how they justify the potential gain from capturing x% of ~120M viewers (as of 2024). 5% is 6 million, or a CAC of ~2M/customer
- RandomBK 2y agoYou mean $2/customer? That doesn't actually sound that bad, and is in line with many other marketing efforts.
- tiffanyh 2y ago> While OpenAI’s text-to-video AI Sora was used during conception to rapidly prototype ideas and explore different camera treatments, the final animation was created entirely by human artists. The biggest GenAI company in the world, didn’t use GenAI to create the commercial. Interesting.

- bfrog 2y agoThe AI company resorts to those pesky costly humans yet again. Almost like it’s a money bonfire of waste.
