Ask HN: How to interview the interviewer?

What kind of questions should a programmer be asking an interviewer in order to figure out if he/she should work at that company? Is there anyway to "try before you buy", like to work for a day and see it's a cultural/technical/social fit for you? It's probably different for different people/companies so I wonder if I can just get HN's broad perspective on this. Thanks a bunch
