  Solving a national arts crisis one beauty pageant at a time. I wonder if the seeds of the problem lie in naming the venue after a political figure? Even just calling it a national facility might have "triggered" this (bad word. We don't use that word) In practice, a nominee will perform the boring rote work and be informed when to redline a production. But the royal box will be there, hamburgers and cold coke at the ready every night.

  I was at the Kennedy Center on Saturday for the 2nd performance of the stage version of Schmigadoon based upon the Apple+ series. Our discussion afterwards was that the Trump administration wouldn't allow performances like it to go on very long. It was just a matter of time before their attention turned there.
