Yes. Gonna be a shitshow. There are zero plans for retraining or repurposing displaced workers -- it's the "every man for themselves" (conservatives generally don't consider women) theory. UBI, which is objectively a very good idea, doesn't stand a chance in the current political climate, and whatever safety net may exist is being shredded even as we speak. It's almost like we're purposely creating an underclass.
We live in interesting times indeed.
- jtonti 2y agoHmm, what do you think you'll do if you are in fact a knowledge worker? I am a software developer and it seems to me software development work won't totally dry up, but I speculate you'll need about 15-20% of the devs you previously needed in the industry. I don't want to fight for scraps so I'd rather move (hopefully laterally), but to what I don't know. I live on a small 7 acre farm, I used to joke that I'll become a farmer, maybe (unbeknownst to myself) I wasn't kidding.
